Crest View Court

Crest View Court   |   Orinda, California   |   3,000 square feet

Our client moved to an Orinda ridge top a few doors away from her daughter and three granddaughters to be part of their everyday life. Rather than renovate the original 1970s structure, we recycled it down to the foundation. Starting over saved time and money, and let Fred Hyer’s blend of Mediterranean and Mexican architecture resonate more strongly with the owner’s Spanish heritage and Nicaraguan childhood. A distressed Guatemalan door at the entrance conjures a deeper past, uniting the drama and rusticity of handmade roof tiles, aging copper flashings, high, large-beamed ceilings and fir decking. Formality meets intimacy in this elegant sanctuary, celebrating a long journey home.
