James D. Rogers, Owner
James grew up in his family’s construction business, learning how to build, how to listen and how to keep forty people in the field. He enjoyed the exactness of the craft and the friendship of clients and crew, but left the constant ringing of his parents’ fourteen telephones for a degree from University of Oregon’s School of Architecture and Allied Arts.
James brought his trained eye back to carpentry on his own terms, designing houses and remodeling retail spaces, restaurants and movie theaters across the country. Returning to the work he was raised to do, he rediscovered his intuitive leadership and honed his ability to set a firm schedule and solid budget through rigorous commercial building.
Today, James devotes the sum of his artistic and technical experience to helping Northern Californians create the homes they’ve always wanted. He founded James D. Rogers, Builder to value nuance over volume, and keeps us at an agile size to efficiently deliver sure communication, lower costs and enduring quality for our clients. He continues to refine his uncommon precision with each opportunity to find the form of a long-held dream.
Bryan Bastian, Managing Partner
Bryan Bastian comes from a long line of builders, most recently his father, a craftsman of custom homes whose inspiring love for the work and the relationships it creates encouraged him to take up the hammer himself as a young man. For thirty years since, from carpenter to superintendent to project manager, he’s been compelled by the challenge and honor of making great places with good people.
Through decades fulfilling the promise of fine architecture in Seattle, Hawaii and San Francisco, Bryan’s constant focus has been earning the trust and respect of owners, designers and fellows in the field. Recognizing the same strong compass in James sparked a connection that’s grown into a close partnership, attuned to choosing the right team, securing an effective process and perfecting particulars for each build.
The importance of a home in elevating the daily life of a family resonates personally with Bryan as he rebuilds the 1926 Berkeley bungalow he shares with his wife and daughter. Ever conscious of the purpose he serves, he’s dedicated to ensuring the experience of construction anticipates the comfort of its result.
